Mayor Bach to Present Award to Academy School District 20

Colorado Springs Mayor Steve Bach will present a Spirit of the Springs “Celebration”

Award to Academy School District 20 for being named a district “Accredited with Distinction” by The State Board of Education and Colorado Department of Education.

Mayor Bach will present the Celebration Award on Wednesday, Feb. 1, at 11:30 a.m. at district headquarters (1110 Chapel Hills Drive -- please contact Nanette Anderson ahead of time for media access to the event, 719-234-1217).

The “Accredited with Distinction” designation is reserved for the top 18 school districts (10 percent) across the state. Academy School District 20 is the largest school district in Colorado to earn the rating and has received the distinction for the second consecutive year.

Colorado accreditation categories are based on rankings from measures of academic achievement, academic growth, academic growth gaps among subgroups of students, and postsecondary and workforce readiness.

“I am so proud of District 20 because the distinction represents hard work by students, parents, teachers and administrators. We have created a culture of achievement that will pay important dividends as students graduate and begin to lead our community,” said Mayor Bach.

The Spirit of the Springs “Celebration” award is presented by the Mayor of Colorado Springs. It recognizes a noteworthy achievement which has brought great honor and pride to the City of Colorado Springs or has been distinguished at a state, national or international level.
