Mayor Steve Bach presented a Spirit of the Springs Award to Eric “Jordan”
Evans on Monday, January 23rd at Calvary Worship Center in Colorado Springs. City Council President Scott Hente also presented a certificate from City Council and the City of Colorado Springs. The Mayor’s wife, Suzi Bach, and Donna Nelson, City Economic Vitality Specialist, also attended.
Jordan was chosen for his heroic actions on May 24, 2010, that may have saved his grandmother’s life. As he and his cousin, Summer Reifschneider, then 10 and two younger siblings walked in Fountain Creek Regional Park, the wind blew over a large tree, hitting their grandmother and severely wounding her. Jordan took charge and sent the younger children to bring emergency officials after Summer called 911.
As a result of this action and others, Jordan was chosen by the National Office of the Boy Scouts of America to deliver the 'Report to the Nation' in Washington DC in February. Only eight Boy Scouts are selected from 2.4 million currently active Scouts. Jordan will meet with President Obama in the Oval Office, the Joint Chiefs at the Pentagon, and will deliver an address to the House Minority and House Majority Leaders. In addition, he will participate in a ceremony representing the Boy Scouts of America at Arlington and visit the Supreme Court.
The Spirit of the Springs certificate is to recognize those who engage in a volunteer activity or noteworthy achievement which has brought great honor and pride to the City of Colorado Springs or who was distinguished at a state, national or international level.
