Public Hearing for Sign Code Update Jan. 19

The City of Colorado Springs Land Use Review Division is updating the City Sign Code.

A public hearing will take place at the City Planning Commission meeting on January 19 at 8:30 a.m. to discuss updates to the existing sign ordinance. The meeting will be held on the second floor of the Regional Development Center, 2880 International Circle.

The first draft of the revised sign code ordinance was completed and made available to stakeholders in August, 2011. In November 2011, the city hosted two open house meetings for public review of the proposed sign code update.

The goal of the Sign Code update is to promote an attractive built environment, successful commercial districts, and a healthy local economy while working to incorporate contemporary industry products, technology & marketing practices and improve understanding, application, flexibility and enforcement of sign standards.

The draft addresses four identified priorities: make needed code clarifications, address aesthetic issues, improve the use of sign packages and plans, and respond to new technologies (address electronic message centers, also known as LED signs).

The current draft and documentation is available at www.SpringsGov.com/2011SignCode. Questions, thoughts and ideas can be forwarded to City Planners Meggan Herington or Lonna Thelen:
